Is It Time To Change Your Filter?

Is your personal energy field in need of realignment?  Do you find that you have become more easily irritated by life’s little annoyances? If so, you may be suffering from hypersensitivity. When I was going through my healing process some years ago, I was blessed to be able to spent six months at home with my husband and dogs. I would only venture out into the world when I absolutely had to. Later, when I was ready to rejoin the world, the first thing I noticed was how loud the world is. By loud, I am referring to the   noises, vibrations, visual stimuli that we are continually being bombarded with.

The outside world was certainly a far cry from my sanctuary of peace and quiet at home. Everything and everyone seemed to be intensified X100. There were even times when this loudness became unbearable. When I spoke with my doctor about all of this  he said these sensitivities were a result of weaning myself off of all medications. This answer just didn’t ring true for me. I knew it had to be something else and I began to wonder if others were experiencing the same things too. I wasn’t surprised to find that everyone I spoke with was indeed experiencing some form of hypersensitivity. It is no wonder that anxiety and nervous system issues are on the rise.

Fast forward to the present. Our sensory perceptions appear to have shifted into hyper drive. So what can we do about all this hypersensitivity? Run away to a deserted island and hide? No unfortunately that’s not a choice. The answer: we must change our MINDFULNESS filter. By this I mean, really becoming aware of the people, places, and things that are causing us to become over stimulated by following these steps.

  1. Identify who, what or where your triggers are.
  2. Choose to either eliminating these triggers all together from your life or at the very least, find your time threshold (the length of time that you can be in this energy without it adversely effecting you).  These adverse effects can present themselves in many ways such as aches and pains, sleepiness and lethargy, or anxiety and irritation.
  3. Once you have discovered your time threshold for a particular trigger, then you can begin to honor it and yourself by limiting the time you spend engaging in these energy altering activities.

As an example, my time threshold for running errands is 2 hours; if for some reason I go over that time this is where my energy really start to wane. If I know in advance I will need to go over this time, I can plan ahead by packing some water and almonds or a healthy snack to take with me in order to revitalize myself. I will also try to plan things in two hour blocks with breaks in between (preferably stepping outside for some fresh air).

Perhaps it’s time for you to step back, unplug, unwind, and turn off the autopilot in order to really see where you are over expending your precious time and energy. Why not look for creative ways to lighten your load? Start by delegating, exchanging or collaborating your tasks. Remember one persons trigger can be another persons strength. So don’t be afraid to express what you really need and when you need it.

Making these changes has made a huge difference in my life. For those of you who are willing to climb down from the hamster wheel of life and begin to honor what your body has been telling you all along, this can be both life changing and affirming. Don’t be afraid to change your mindfulness filter and stand in your true power.

Blessings of Love and Light,
